A true 'Basecamp' is the heart of the slow travel experience. It is more than just a place to sleep; it is a strategic home base that allows us to unpack, settle in, and truly inhabit a region. For us, a Basecamp must balance local character with modern utility—offering the high-speed connectivity needed for digital content creation, the accessibility required for EV travel, and the comfort of a space that feels like home. On this page, we share the cottages, apartments, and boutique hotels that have served as our anchors while we explore the world’s most picturesque villages and landscapes.

The Basecamp Blueprint: Defining the Ultimate Home Base

While our lives are often defined by the horizon, every voyager needs a strategic anchor. We’ve spent years identifying the specific features that turn a house into a true 'Basecamp'—a space that supports professional content creation, sustainable living, and the seamless transition between land and sea. Here is our curated list of dream amenities for the ultimate traveler’s retreat.

American King sized Bed - Two twin beds that can be put together is a good alternative, especially if they're a zip and link style
Off Street Free Parking - One soff the street space that's free of charge is sufficient. Often a house will come with a parking pass if there isn't a dedicated space alotted to the house. If that's the case, we need to ensure we have unloading/drop off in front of the house.
High Speed Internet - Fiber optic internet with a mesh wifi system
EV Charger - Most are metered, some are free. If there isn't one on site, we look for one nearby where we could park overnight.
Smart Systems - Security, lighting, and climate control to ensure the home remains efficient. A smart TV is always appreciated.
Community Immersion - We look for homes within 1oo feet of shops, cafes and pubs
Ensuite bathroom - If we're getting a home with more than one room, we really try to find at least one ensuite bathroom.
Ground floor wet room (toilet) - For homes with multiple floors, we try to find one that has a loo on the ground floor where most of the public rooms are.
Elevator if multiple floors - For apartment buildings, we appreciate an elevator, especially for bringing luggage in and out.
Views - We love a window with a view, whether it's to the sea, a green space or perfect sunsets.
Bathtub and separate shower - Ensuring a shower is tall enough to stand in without bumping heads is important, but the extra luxury of a separate bath is welcome at the end of a long day of hiking.
Kitchen - Always a treat when they are equipped with cooking and baking supplies, sharp knives and high-efficiency appliances,
Sleeper Sofa - A nice way  to be able to welcome guests.
Heating/Cooling - Lovely to have a wood burner, pellet stove, radiator or furnace in the winter, and a fan, condensation cooler or air conditioner in the summer.
Laundry facilities - a washer and tumble dryer are must haves for long stays. At the minimum, we need a clothes horse to hang clothing indoors in inclement weather.
Outdoor Space - A garden, patio, terrace, or balcony big enough for a cup of tea in the morning or glass of wine in the evening
Soar arrays - A bonus is to have a battery back up system to minimize our envitonmetal footprint and provide some protection in case of power outage.

2 bed/3 bath penthouse flat with views of the Liver building. Elevator, 1 parking space, American King size bed, Smart TV, well appointed kitchen

3 bed/2 bath cottage with 1 parking space, Double Bed (2 twins on 2nd floor can be made to 1 American King), laundry and kitchen
